  अड़सठ की उम्र में हिमालय जीता उत्तरकाशी की चन्द्रप्रभा अटवाल ने कायम की मिसाल, 6133 मी ऊँची चोटी श्रीकंठ पर लहराया तिरंगा। उत्तरकाशी की 68 वर्षीय चन्द्रप्रभा अटवाल पहाड़ों की गोद में खेलकर बड़ी हुई और होश सम्भालने पर इन्हीं से दिल लगा बैठीं। उम्र के इस पड़ाव में भी चन्द्रप्रभा के हौसले इतने बुलन्द हैं कि उन्होंने हिमालय की 6133 मी ऊँची चोटी श्रीकंठ पर तिरंगा फहराकर मिसाल कायम की है। आठ महिला पर्वतारोहियों के दल का नेतृत्व करने वाली चन्द्रप्रभा को पहाड़ों से इस कदर मोह हो गया कि उन्होंने शादी भी नहीं की। पर्वतारोहण का 40 साल का अनुभव रखने वाली चन्द्रप्रभा ने कई अन्य देशों में पर्वतारोहण किया है। इस पर्वतारोही ने नेपाल, चीन, जापान में पहाड़ों की ऊँचाई नापी है। चन्द्रप्रभा को माउण्ट एवरेस्ट पर तिरंगा नहीं फहरा पाने का मलाल आज भी है। उन्होंने बताया कि वे तीन बार एवरेस्ट मिशन के लिए चुनी गईं, लेकिन वे इन्हें पूरा नहीं कर पाईं। ̥̥
